RIGF 2018 speakers will deliver lectures at universities of Saint Petersburg

Students will be able to learn more about Internet governance, online security and the development of global policies

On 5 April, in the run-up to the Ninth Russian Internet Governance Forum (RIGF) lectures will be delivered in the leading educational institutions of Saint Petersburg. RIGF speakers and experts will deliver lectures on a variety of topics connected to Internet governance, its structure and function as well as security and international relations.

Wolfgang Kleinwaechter, Professor at the University of Aarhus, will tell students at the Higher School of Economics about the development mechanism of global policies and different models of Internet governance. His lecture will be called «Digital War or Digital Peace? Do we need a Helsinki- Process for Cyberspace?» The lecturer will touch upon the issues of international cooperation and the practice of taking into account the opinions of all stakeholders when making global decisions. The lecture will be held in English.

Alexey Semenyaka and Maxim Burtikov from RIPE NCC will give a lecture on the “multilayered” infrastructure of the Internet, how it is organized and managed. Their audience will be the students of the Bonch-Bruevich Saint-Petersburg University of Telecommunications. In their lecture they will review the term “Internet governance” from different perspectives and will also talk about RIPE NCC’s initiatives in this area.

Students at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will learn about the development of the Internet of Things and what risks accompany it from the lecture of Gleb Pyzhov, Director at the Internet Support Foundation and Deputy Director at the Internet of Things Association.

On the same day a roundtable “Information security and children: consolidation of efforts of the state and society in the formation of norms and mechanisms to ensure a secure information environment” will take place at Azimut hotel. Representatives of educational and cultural authorities, teachers, parents and representatives of public organizations will gather together to discuss issues of children’s information safety and mechanisms of protection of children against negative content.
